Mermaids

During this summer’s InWater Photography course at Brooks Institute one of the students brought a silicone mermaid tail, designed by Eric Ducharme, on our 5‑day boat trip down to Catalina Island. Getting into the tail, and then getting the mermaid into the water, was a group effort but it looked amazing in the water.

In-Water 1

Every summer I teach an awesome class at Brooks Institute called In-Water Photography. It’s designed to teach students how to shoot in any wet environment; deep ocean, waves, streams, lakes, pools, even bathtubs. About half the students are SCUBA certified, the other half stick to the shallow stuff.  I’ll be posting several images and stories over the next few weeks.

This is one of my students, Chiara, working with Sara Williams, a great underwater model, at the Los Banos del Mar pool in Santa Barbara. The image was taken with my D300 camera in a Sea&Sea housing with an 8‑inch dome port and two small underwater strobes. One of my favorite underwater photo shops is Backscatter in Monterey, Callifornia.
